Keywords are generally intended to get the attention of people using the search engines for a particular "thing".

So, someone looking for information on dog collars might do a search on "dog collars" which the engines would see as "dog" + "collar" (unless the user literally put "dog collars" inside quote marks).

So, if your blog has to do with dog products and sold dog collars, you would want to have "dog" and "collar" featured in your blog posts, maybe in your template, and as text for your pictures.

Now when someone searches on "dog collar" perhaps your site will come up in his/her search. But it will depend on your site's "ranking" as to where in the search result your site is placed.

You should do a Google search on the topic for more information. The Google site itself has a wealth of information on search key words and placement.

You'll have to know about search engine optimization (SEO) so that you can understand the importance of keywords for a blog.

Keywords are the targetting words you an use in your blog post & in meta tag so that your blog will get good search engine result page for that specific keyword.Suppose your blog is about "money making online",then the more number of times you use this keyword in your blog posts the more chances that your blog comes in the first page of search result pages when someone searches this word.So proper use of keywords drive thousands of traffics to a blog.

Some steps recommended:  :)
1. judge what is your niche and generate some general keywords
2. employ a good keyword tool, such as the one from google, and dig further for the general keywords
3. choose some Money Keywords for your site
4. using these keywords on-page and off-page

Wish this help,

Advice given earlier that implies that using keywords often and repeatedly is not good advice. Search engines may consider this to be "keyword stuffing" and penalize your site.

You can start learning SEO for that. Once if you know whole terms for seo than it will be easy to choose keywords and also you can promote your blog for traffic to your site.

Putting keywords to use is not all that difficult. If you are selling something then you want to target selling KWs.  ie:

dog collars =  a broad term for someone kicking the tires and just looking for dog collars. (Just looking and not that interested in buying at this time.)

large pit bull dog collars =  someone searching to buy a large pit bull dog collar.  (looking to buy - a selling KW phrase)

A KW trick or two.
  • Put your "Targeted" KW phrase in your title
  • Put your "Targeted KW phrase in the 1st sentence of your post.
  • A "Targeted KW phrase in the middle and then near the end of your post.

Don't stuff your posts with KWs. Google has a glove with rusty nails sticking out of it that they use to give a Google slap to marketers trying to pull a fast one on them.  ;D
Hope this helps a bit
