Is twitter is useful in SEO?

I am sure that we can get more traffic from twitter. But, is it helpful on SEO? Will having links on twitter help to get more SERP?

Good question. The answer is I have no idea. Perhaps someone else can chime in here.

On a sidenote, I use Twitter, not because of SEO (I personally don't care about things like SEO, PageRank blah blah blah) but because it is fun. I've actually been finding more useful info via Twitter than RSS.

The backlinks from Twitter is nofollow,Which is not usefull for SEO.

Any networking site use no-follow on outgoing links and twitter is one of them and we can not take any benefit in SEO from networking site like facebook, stumbleupon etc.

Social networking sites are helpful for improving ranking,so twitter would not be away from it.And I know Google love Twitter,so in Google you would get some boost after your tweets,but must be frequent tweets of your blog not a single or five tweets.
