I dont think that twitter is best for SEO, it is good only for getting traffic, I think it doesnt play any role in the search engine rankings.

Newbie here. How do you get followers on twitter? Do they have to be friends with you? I see a lot of blogs that have included options to be followed at twitter and facebook. How does this work. Pls shower me with your knowledge.

Twitter links are all no-follow - so it's useless for backlinking/SEO purposes. The only Twitter link that is do-follow is the one in your Twitter profile.
Where Twitter is useful is in getting a site indexed quickly. If you tweet with the URL, the googlebots spider the link and index you.
Twitter is also useful if you are creating a buzz around a brand - but that's more for the big name manufacturers.

I agree with Teatree. Twitter is good for PR and engagement, but the backlinks don't have any juice, meaning they don't pass on PageRank.
