I just started a new blog a few days ago and I don't know how to go about promoting it. The address is www.whoisgarypiano.com. It's essentially a diary. I know someone out there will enjoy reading it, but I'm not sure how to find them. If it was a more niche based blog I would know what to do, but since my entries are dependent on what going on in my head each day, I'm at a loss.

What's going on at the bottom of your template? It is like 90 point type --at least it is rendering that way with IE8.

Couple of thoughts: Don't ever start a post with words like "I don't know what to write about today." It is sort of like "Stop right here, boring stuff is coming up."

The "Jerk who drinks too much" is an interestring tagline. Maybe you could do more with that, niche-wise?

Personally I think your blog is great. I really like your posts.  I think, posting it here is a good start for making it popular, but I suggest searching the net for some articles on "How To Make Your Blog Popular". I think they will help you promote it.  :)

P.S.
I will put your blog on my Blogroll  ;)

Ha. I'll keep that in mind. I was intending on proofreading all the entries every Sunday. I'll keep a mental not to take that part out. I'm never really sure what to write about though. This blog is a way to train myself to come up with ideas more naturally.

Yeah, the bottom text is bigger. I'm not sure how bigger. I wanted the subscribe/contact information to stick out to encourage feedback. So far, at least with Twitter, it's been working.

EDIT: Just checked the site out in IE. HOLY MOTHER OF CRAP! It looks great in Firefox. Not sure why it's doing that in IE. Hmmmmm.

I'm glad you enjoy the entries. I've noticed that it's essentially me making fun of the hardships I'm encountering right now. I made it clear that I started the blog to keep my mind off things, but I didn't want to come off as a whiny, uh--not sure if I can swear in here.

I have checked a few sites for tips. One of the tips was to post in blogging forums. So far, this is the only one I've done that in. I figured that I'd see what kind of response I got first.

Thanks for linking to my site. I'll have to link to yours in return.

I just really enjoyed reading your blog...the best advice I can give is visit other blogs that appeal to you and leave honest thoughtful comments and slowly your fan base will grow-it takes work on your part-think networking

Wow, I got a lot more feedback that I expected. Thanks a lot guys.

I fixed the h1 tag. I know very little about html, so it's easy for me to make mistakes. Most of it is just trial and error.

I probably should start reading other blogs. I just need to find the good ones.

i'm in the same boat, i'll check you out. i've joined a couple of forums and asked for reviews. it seems the more reviews i get, the more consistent traffic i have.  what i'm hoping for is to keep the people who have commented coming back... yikes! it's a tricky game... i'll stop by & let you know what i think!
