Providing compelling, useful, interesting, novel, unique content is a good starting point. Or offer a useful service - some sort of free calculator or translater.
Wayne makes a very good point - "what problems people in your niche want solved" - you need to be providing something useful to your readers.

How to get more traffic you can try using facebook and twitter if you have a large number of followers then you will recieve enough traffic from those social networking sites.
